Instruction # 49 - KeePass Password Safe 1.04

1. This program can encrypt the database using the advanced encryption standard (AES) and Twofish algorithms. Even the banks use those types of encrypting.

2. Installing : open your downloaded file. If it is zipped,
unzip with Good Zip Freeware and open it. Then select language and click OK > next > check "I accept the agreement" check box > next > next > next > next > install > finish.

3. There are three options to open your database.
a. Use a master key. ( Read step 4. )
b. Use a file. ( Read step 5. )
c. Use a master key and a file. ( Read step 6. )

4. To use a master key to open the database, click menu file > new database.

At enter password, type your password to open the database then click OK.
Type your password again then click OK. A new window shows

Click menu file > save database > name and locate the database.

It's time to store the passwords that are important in your life, click menu edit > and entry. Select group and fill in a form.

If you want this program to generate the password, click gen then a new window opens, at Number of characters, select number (more numbers, more secure)

Then click Generate button, the get random window opens.

In the picture above, at number 1, click use mouse as random source then move a mouse pointer around the black area at number 2. While the mouse pointer is moving, you can see the progress bar at number 3.

Click OK, the get random window is closed.

Click Accept, the add entry window shows. To see the generated password, click 3 dot button.

To set date for password expiration, check "Expires" check box then set date and time, click OK. The symbol below means the expiration of the password.

To edit an item, double-click that item.
To create your own group, click menu edit > add password group.
To create your own sub group, select a main group then click menu edit > add password subgroup.

You can search what you are looking for at a search box.

Don't forget the password to open your database.

5. To use a file to open your database, click menu file > new database.

At select the password disk drive where the key will be stored, select drive to store a file then click OK. The get random window opens to generate a random key. To see the instruction of generating a random key, read step 4 (The picture that shows the black area)

In the end, you will have a file "pwsafe.key". You don't have to remember the password but you must know where this file is because it is used to open your database.

For a secure way, you should write this file to a CD.

6. To use a master key and a file to open your database, follow steps 4 to 5.....Done !
