Sound Recorder (FREE) - Record Voice Via Microphone On Windows 11

No-frills recorder from Microsoft is for instant recording. When you press a button to record, it create a new file. When you press a button to stop recording, it creates name and save the output file automatically.

This app comes with Windows 11, I launched it, the app asked for permission to use microphone, I clicked 'Yes'

Then the app window said "updating the app" but it took so long, I decided to open Microsoft store, then clicked an update button near the open button.

Everything went fine.

1. Its name on Microsoft Store is 'Windows Sound Recorder'. Its name on the window is 'Sound Recorder'.

Before recording you should set your microphone.

At the bottom of app's window, click 'Microphone Array'

Then click 'Change default in settings'.

The window of settings shows.

Click 'Microphone Array'

Set input volume. I set it to 100.

2. Go back to the app's window.

Click a red button to record, you will see the pause button.

If the pause button is clicked, there will be the button 'record'.

The output files are in the left pane.

Right click at the output file to show menus for organizing.

To play the output file, select it and click a 'play' button.

You can move a playhead to the target position for playing or marking.

To place the playhead at the position you mark, click the arrow (See the picture below).

3. Click '3 dots' icon at the top right of window for options.

The pictures below are the options for recording.

Keyboard shortcuts:

- Spacebar to play/pause
- Spacebar/Esc to stop recording
- To move playhead to the right/left, click the area in the picture below, then press left/right key on the keyboard

A long speech might need an editor so you need another app to do the task.
