Microsoft PowerToys (FREE) - Extract Text from Images on Windows 11

Capture screen, then paste the extracted text. That's what you extract text with 'Text Extractor' in Microsoft PowerToys.

1. Install and open Microsoft PowerToys. Show hidden icons at taskbar.

Double click the app's icon.

At the left pane, click 'Text Extractor'. At the right pane, click 'Open Settings'.

Turn on 'Text Extractor'.

Set 'shortcut' by clicking 'pen' icon.

A new window shows, type a shortcut, then click 'Save'.

2. Press a shortcut to capture.

I captured folder name.

Pasted to notepad.


This tool is better than 'Snipping Tool' (comes with Windows) on small images.


'Snipping Tool' doesn't work with small images.

'Snipping Tool' tells users: 'Too small to scan for text'

Unlike 'Text Extractor'.

3. When you press a shortcut, you have options for formatting result.


In the picture below, 'format result as a single line' is enabled.

'Text Extractor' is for getting text fast. No built-in editor.
